Attorney Elvia P. García is a first-generation Mexican immigrant whose family settled in Ventura County nearly 20 years ago. Elvia García was raised in Moorpark where she attended Moorpark High School. After graduating in 2003, she pursued her undergraduate degree at the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB). At UCSB, Ms. García double-majored in Women Studies and Spanish, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2007.
Ms. García completed her legal studies at the Santa Barbara College of Law and graduated in 2012. In 2013, Ms. García passed the California Bar Exam and was admitted to the practice of law. Ms. García has significant legal experience. While attending law school, Ms. García worked full-time as a paralegal with Cruz & McMurray, LLP. In that capacity, she gained invaluable practical experience, managed her own caseload and assisted clients with issues related to their family and criminal law cases. Ms. García also interned with the Santa Barbara Public Defender’s office where she acquired valuable skills on how to represent and defend individuals accused of committing crimes. In addition, Ms. García has provided legal support to several local attorneys, assisting them with legal research, drafting motions and communicating with their clients.
Ms. García currently provides legal support to the Mexican Consulate in Oxnard through the Department of Protection in association with Programa de Asistencia Legales Externas (PALE). This program provides low cost and pro-bono legal assistance to hundreds of Mexican nationals.
Ms. García has a strong work ethic and is dedicated to her clients. She believes a lawyer should be accessible, and therefore, she makes sure she is available to her clients. Additionally, Ms. García is extremely professional and is a persuasive advocate in the court.
